Haze in Singapore 2015

As a lot of us have realized by now, we are now in a Hazy situation or some call it "romantic"season.

Few are happy while many are annoyed, even distressed by the hazy situation.

Happy: Students do not need to attend school if PSI hits 300 (hazadarous) or when the MOE announces so (wait for news from MOE or yr School authority to sms /call your home).

Understand More on PSI Chart

The health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity. Reducing outdoor activities and physical exertion can help limit the ill effects from haze exposure. Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, healthy persons should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. The elderly, pregnant women and children should minimise prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion, while those with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. Persons who are not feeling well, especially the elderly and children, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, should seek medical attention.

For updates, visit our NEA website (www.nea.gov.sg), the haze microsite (www.haze.gov.sg), follow us on NEA Facebook (www.facebook.com/NEASingapore) and NEA Twitter (@NEAsg), or download the myENV app.

For more information, please contact:
Call Centre: 1800-CALL NEA (1800-2255 632)
Email: Contact_NEA@nea.gov.sg

Closure of Primary and Secondary SchoolsThe Ministry of Education will consider closing all primary and secondary schools to students when the health advisory for the next day indicates that the air quality will be at the hazardous level. School-based student care centres will operate during periods of closure. MOE will announce the closure of schools at around the same time that the health advisory is released. Schools will also contact parents to inform them of the closure of schools for students via phone or SMS.
We seek parents' and employers' understanding that relatively short notice for any announcement of school closure could be given. We also wish to encourage parents to make advance care arrangements for their children for such an eventuality. Under those circumstances, we urge employers to exercise greater workplace flexibility in enabling their employees to care for their children.
Unhappy: Adults still have to work in this unhealthy psi level

Many expressed unhappiness over remarks made by authorities.

"Look at how long they have enjoyed fresh air from our green environment and forests when there were no fires. Could be months. Are they grateful? But when forest fires occur, a month at the most, haze pollutes their regions. So why should there be an apology?" he said during a dialogue session with Indonesians in New York at the Indonesian Consulate-General on Thursday" Mr Kalla, VP of Indonesia

Few are taking the opportunity to spread rumors.

Cloud seeding rumours are 'false, malicious': MEWR Minister Vivian Balakrishnan

The National Environment Agency does not engage in cloud seeding and has no plans to do so, said Minister for Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

"You may have seen this making the rounds. It is untrue. NEA does not engage in cloud seeding and has no plans to do so. Singapore is so small that even if anybody tried to do it, the rain would almost certainly fall outside Singapore. Singaporeans should beware of malicious people spreading false rumors during a period when anxieties are heightened." Vivian Balakrishnan

"N95 masks will be available at all Community Clubs tomorrow for CHAS and Pioneer Generation card holders and Comcare recipients. Grassroots volunteers will also reach out to residents who are immobile or vulnerable.

Our offer to assist the Indonesian authorities remain open. We have shared with Indonesia the hotspots NEA had identified through satellite imagery that might have caused the recent haze episodes in Singapore. We have also asked them to share the identity of companies responsible for causing the haze. These companies will be liable for criminal and civil penalties according to the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act..."

Boy Hand Stuck in Lift at Suntec Bookfest event on 13 Dec Sat 230pm

Omy to Popular Bookfest 2014 at Suntec City, Heard this little boy shouting like the world is falling down when I exit the other lift next to his.

To my shock, one of his hands was inside the lift door and he was terrified screaming his way and keep calling out for his mommy.

Many macho men came to his rescue ,including the security .
In what seem to be a lifetime for the young boy, his hand was freedin less than 3 mins with help of passerby and security. The men shouted in unity 123 and used up all their cow strength to 'pry open' the metal door so that his hand can slide out but it took a while as he was very scared and in tears .

To all parents , pls keep a look out for your child safety while on the elevator or any thing that their little limbs can squeeze in.

It was a really scary incident, if without the help of men, this boy hand may be fractured or broken.

In future when I bring my pri school students for trails and events, I will relate this experience to them.

Maybe can even show them these pics on my blog

Thanks
Be safe

Creative Advertisement of Bicycle Shop

Saw this simple yet practical ad at a location opposite Chinese Garden MRT.

Initially thgt someone's bike was stolen as only the front wheel was left there and a pc of A4 paper stick onto it.

When I went nearer to examine,,it was actually a clever ad for a bicycle shop nearby Jurong east.

In the past, inhave seen the same bicycle shop devised some mini flyers tied to bicycles parked at MRT stations with a rubber bands.

Innovative idea rally keeps the business going in this competitive country like Singapore.

PM Lee Visit Redhill Market blk 85

After the pm Lee visit to Redhill market,
I began to realise this stall at #01-19 became
super long queue!

The food there is quite reasonable.
For a plate of bee hoon at only 60 cents, chicken wing $1.20.
Few stalls away, a big bowl of tau huay (soya bean) only 60 cents, cheaper than coffee.

No wonder even pm Lee wants to join in the crowd...

The famous shop opens from 4pm to 10pm
Closed on Mondays.

See queue , join in and u will nerve go wrong...:D

Diagonally opposite Redhill MRT.

Made in China Stuff in Yishun Mr Teh Tarik

While drinking kopi @ Mr Teh Tarik in Yishun,
spotted this signage pasted in their male toilet door.
"Please Pull Gently Everything Made From China"
Implying that things manufactured by that country is not 'strong' or not made to last.

From what I understand, made in China stuff are over the world. If China made stuff cannot be used, what can we substitute with?

China had came up with Lenovo , Xiao Mi phones that actually swept off even big boys like IPhone.
Not forgetting the giant Alibaba.com whose founder is a billionaire now!
Its really a force to reckon with.
Made in China boleh!!!

Ps
I am not Chinaman, I born Singapore.

Cpf money coming on 1 Aug 2014 for Singaporeans and Pioneer Generation

Finally some money coming our way on 1 Aug 2014 (Friday)
Jus in time to go for a long weekend before National Day or maybe a good idea to plan one on ndp .

How much did u get this time?

As a not so young ,not so old generation, i managed to receive $250 from ah gong the old men.
Pioneer generation gets $500 cash with anthr $250 going to medisave. Total $750
I got anthr 17 yrs to reach pioneer status.
Now only pioneer 3rd generation, Lol

What can u do with $250?

My wish list, only can choose one below:

Plan a holiday trip to Penang and enjoy all the good food.

Buy $250 worth of durians and gorge myself

Buy $250 worth of 90 over crystal red shrimps or spent it on one or two pure red line shrimps.

Meals for 22 working days.
Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner and maybe tea break + supper.
One packet of $3 chicken rice or $3 nasi leamak per day.

Save up for future, with maybe abt 3¢-10¢ year end interest from my favorite POSB bank.

Whatever yr plans are, its good to plan ahead no matter how big or small the money coming in is...

But do not bet on it...

Save up or use it wisely is best course.

Two cents worth..

A pic spreading in facebook
